We’ve been known for weaving wonders. Now we’ll be renowned for weaving history. Because, history is not always written; sometimes it’s woven…
Inspiration The immortal paintings of Raja Ravi Verma have inspired us to revive a bygone era, and make a modern-day marvel. After extensive research on the legendary artist’s works of art, we chose his Lady Musicians to be the core theme & pallu of Vivagaa, and 10 of his best paintings to beautify the border.
Paintings Raja Ravi Verma may have had a short lifetime, but his immortal paintings continue to live to this day. His painting ‘Lady Musicians’, created in the 1800s, forms the core theme of our saree. The painting brings together a galaxy of 11 women musicians, each hailing from different states of India; their instruments as well as their clothing, reflect the ethos of their place of origin. It is a beautiful representation of ‘unity in diversity’, an aspect that holds much relevance in today’s times as well…
Besides the lady musicians who perfectly harmonise the pallu, there are 10 other paintings of the great artist that proudly bedazzle the borders. These include ‘Radha waiting for Krishna’, ‘Damayanti’, ‘Tara Devi with sitar’, ‘Maharashtrian Lady’, ‘Here comes papa’, ‘Shakuntala writing love letter’, ‘Hamsa Damayanti’, ‘Krishna & Yashoda’, ‘Mohini’ & ‘Kadambari’. Over the years, Raja Ravi Verma’s works have been replicated on diverse media and through different methods. But we believe that our translation of his work into a tapestry of tradition will be the first of its kind, and will continue to remain so…
